There's no single answer — interiors, exteriors, and cabinets all wear on different schedules, and Texas climate accelerates a few of them. Here's a practical timeline for Houston-area homes.

Interior walls: 5–10 years

Most interior walls in Texas homes look tired after 5–7 years, especially in high-traffic areas — kids' rooms, hallways, kitchens. Bedrooms and formal living areas often go 8–10 years before they need a full repaint.

Interior trim and doors: 8–12 years

Sprayed trim with quality alkyd or enamel lasts much longer than walls. You'll usually touch up trim at the wall repaint and only respray after two wall cycles.

Exteriors: 7–12 years (wood) / 10–15 years (stucco)

Houston exteriors live or die by prep. A properly prepped, primed, and double-coated exterior should hit the top end of those ranges. South- and west-facing walls always fail first.

Cabinets: 8–15 years

Sprayed cabinet finishes with pre-cat lacquer or alkyd enamel hold up remarkably well. Most homeowners refresh sooner for color reasons (taste changes) than for finish failure.
